Solar, batteries and backup generators.
One local contact to talk through your options.
Buy less electricity from your utility with solar sized to your roof and power use.
Keep the lights on and essentials running during an outage. Choose backup for selected circuits or your whole home, sized around your needs.
Prepare for longer outages with a standby generator or a safe connection for a portable generator. Power the essentials or plan for whole home backup.
SOLAR PRICING
Installed price examples.
Your quote sets out the equipment, cost and savings.
Three example budgets, fully installed. Prices are before rebates and 5% GST unless a rebate is shown. The right system size depends on electricity use and suitable roof space.
A 5 kW system for a modest home or a partial offset.
$10,000 to $12,000Before rebates
For eligible BC Hydro customers receiving the full $5,000 solar rebate.
Designed to cover around 60% of an average Okanagan home’s yearly electricity use, based on 9,900 kWh a year.

$16,000 to $20,000Before rebates
Based on an average of 9,900 kWh a year. Some homes use less, others more. Your quote will be sized to your actual electricity use.
See what solar could saveFor a larger home with an EV, hot tub, sauna and rental suite.
$33,000 to $38,000Before rebates
A larger system can cost less per panel. Households that use the most electricity have the greatest potential for total dollar savings.
Plan a larger systemElectricity use: We use 9,900 kWh a year as the baseline for our average detached-home example in the Okanagan. This is FortisBC’s average residential consumption figure. Actual use varies, and the large-home example assumes higher consumption. FortisBC’s consumption reference.
System size: The modest-home price is for a 5 kW system designed to cover around 60% of that baseline and qualify for the maximum $5,000 BC Hydro solar rebate where eligible.
The property: These are budget ranges for rooftop solar on a suitable home. Equipment, roof condition, shade, access and electrical work all affect the final price. Ground-mounted systems and work outside the quoted scope are priced for the property.
Your quote: We use your electricity bills and plans for future use to size the system. Your proposal shows system size, expected annual production, estimated bill savings, any applicable rebate and the total price including GST. If solar isn’t a good fit for your roof, we’ll tell you.
HOW SOLAR WORKS
Solar panels turn daylight into electricity. Use it as it’s produced, or send extra power to the grid for credits under your utility’s program.
A battery can store power for later. Outage protection needs equipment designed for backup; standard solar usually shuts down when the grid goes down.
Talk through your optionsSimplified energy flow. Equipment and connections vary by system.

YOUR LOCAL CONTACT
You want sound advice, quality work and someone you can count on.
I’ve been helping people with home technology since 2013 and have designed hundreds of solar systems. My experience in the industry showed me how much fair pricing, clear expectations and keeping your word matter. That’s the approach I bring to every project at Align.
Whether your goal is lower electricity bills or reliable backup power, I’ll help you choose the right setup.
I live in the Okanagan with my wife and our two young daughters. I take pride in looking after the people who put their trust in me.
You’ll deal directly with me. I’ll explain your options, keep you informed and be here to help long after the work is done.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Costs, savings and what to expect.
Have another question? Give Steve a call.
Solar doesn’t make sense for every roof, and we’ll be honest if yours isn’t a good candidate. We look at the roof’s condition, available space, shade, the direction it faces and how much electricity you use. Your proposal will show the expected production and savings so you can judge whether it’s worth it. If the roof isn’t suitable, a ground-mounted system may be an option.
There isn’t one price that fits every home. System size, equipment, roof or ground-mount requirements, electrical work and access all affect the quote.
See our installed price examples for modest homes, average detached homes and homes with higher electricity use. Each example shows the price before rebates and GST, with rebate details listed separately. Request a free quote for your property.
Your quote shows estimated yearly bill savings and how long they could take to cover the system’s cost. The numbers depend on your roof, electricity use and utility.
Our example projections show an estimated payback of 8 to 11 years for suitable roofs, using a 4% yearly electricity-rate increase. Your proposal will show the estimate for your property.
The example payback range uses suitable roofs with south-, east- or west-facing sections.
We stand behind the power your system produces. You’ll receive a chart of expected kWh production, and we’ll set up an app that monitors and logs your system’s output.
Every two years, we’ll compare the recorded production with your chart. If it falls short, we’ll pay you the full value of the difference at current electricity rates by e-transfer. This guarantee covers the first 10 years.
Our 25-year projections estimate annual returns of around 8% to 12% from avoided electricity costs. This is money kept from income you’ve already paid tax on. Your proposal explains the calculation and included costs. The estimate excludes any increase in property value and is not a guaranteed investment return.
For context, BC Hydro announced average bill increases of 3.75% for both 2025 and 2026, close to the 4% assumption in our model. Future increases may be higher or lower.
BCUC’s FortisBC comparison shows a two-month residential bill rising from $222 in July 2021 to $297 in July 2026, using the same 752.31 kWh per month. That works out to about 6% per year compounded. See BCUC’s bill history.
FortisBC has also proposed a 6.42% electricity rate increase for 2027. That is a proposal, subject to BCUC approval. We still use 4% in these savings projections.
Yes. Solar panels can produce electricity in cold weather, but shorter days, snow and shade reduce winter output. In the Okanagan, most of the year’s solar production typically happens from March through October. We account for these seasonal changes in your annual production estimate.
FortisBC’s net metering program banks surplus electricity as kWh credits for future bills. Credits built up in sunnier months can help offset winter use, so we look at production and savings over the whole year. Any credits left at the annual settlement are handled under FortisBC’s program rules. Read about FortisBC net metering.
BC Hydro uses a different credit system for new solar customers. We use the rules for your electricity provider when preparing your estimate.
Usually, no. A standard grid-connected solar system shuts down during an outage to protect people working on the power lines. To keep part or all of your home running, you need equipment designed for backup. We can help you compare a battery or generator based on what you want to power.
It depends on what you need to run and how long your outages tend to last. Batteries are quiet and use stored electricity. Generators can run longer with a fuel supply, but need regular maintenance. We’ll compare the options with you, including the space and budget available.
Often, yes. We’ll check that the equipment works together and your electrical system can support it. If battery backup is in your future, let us know now so we can plan for it.
Yes. We design every system with future expansion in mind and plan the equipment and connections to keep that option open wherever possible.
An EV, a rental suite or other changes can increase your electricity use. We’ll talk through those plans with you now, so you can start with a system that fits your budget and add panels later where space and utility requirements allow.
We take care of the design, submissions and approvals, including required architectural drawings, building permits, electrical permits and your utility’s interconnection agreement. We also arrange the required inspections after installation and follow through on final approvals.
We target 3 to 6 weeks after signing. In the City of Kelowna, a typical system is installed about 25 days after signing. Timing depends on how quickly the city processes the building permit and when FortisBC or your electricity provider gives final approval.
Complex projects can take longer if they need extensive design work, additional inspections or more involved city and utility approvals. For these projects, our target is still under 12 weeks. We’ll explain the expected schedule before you commit and keep you updated.
